Voice notes for iPhone and Apple Watch

You talk.
It writes.

Record on your iPhone or your Apple Watch. Your iPhone turns it into text on the device itself, and clear reminders and events go into Reminders and Calendar.

In development, not yet released. iOS 26 and watchOS 26 or later. No account.

Two ways to start.
Neither one is the backup.

The watch and the phone are both full ways to record, with the same two buttons while you speak. Transcription happens on the iPhone.

Apple Watch

Open the app. It is already recording.

Open the app
Recording starts by itself. Tap once to stop.
Watch face
A Start Recording complication: one tap opens the app and starts recording.
Control Center
A button there does the same.
When you stop
The recording goes to your iPhone and the app closes itself a few seconds later.

iPhone

Tap record, or skip the app entirely.

Record button
Opens a half sheet with the timer, stop, and the two mark buttons.
Siri and Shortcuts
A Start Recording action you can say or build into a shortcut.
Action button
Assign Start Recording to it.
Control Center and Lock Screen
A Control Center button and a Lock Screen widget start recording directly.

Got it wrong? Tap Cancel. Recordings shorter than 2 seconds are discarded automatically.

Everything it does,
one screen at a time.

A plain list of what you said.

Every recording from the watch and the phone lands in one list, newest first, with its date, its length and the first words of the transcript.

  • A star marks a recording you tapped Highlight in.
  • “1 to confirm” means something in it is waiting for your yes or no.
  • “Nothing heard” means it was too quiet to hand to the speech model, which can invent words from background noise. The audio is still there.

Tidied text. The original is always kept.

What you read has misheard words corrected, filler words removed and punctuation added. The transcript underneath is left untouched.

  • Show Original switches back to the untouched transcript in one tap.
  • Play Recording plays the audio, which is kept too.
  • Transcribe Again runs the recording through the speech model once more.

Clear ones are written. Unclear ones ask.

Reminders go into Apple’s Reminders and events into Calendar, not into yet another to-do list inside the app.

  • Undo sits next to everything that was written, and removes it from Reminders or Calendar.
  • Add or Dismiss for anything it was not sure about. Nothing unclear is written by itself.
  • Once only. Something you undid or dismissed is not written back later.

Teach it a word once.

Names of people and products are the easiest to mishear. Enter what was heard and what it should be.

  • Past and future. Recordings you already have are corrected too.
  • Your own fillers. Leave the replacement empty and the word is removed from the tidied text.
  • Not case-sensitive.

Lock what you said, not the record button.

Lock with Face ID is off by default. Turn it on and the list and its contents need Face ID or your passcode each time you come back.

  • Recording stays open. You can still record right away while it is locked.
  • Not much to learn. The phone has a list and a short settings page; the watch has a single screen.

Two buttons
while you speak.

The same on the watch and on the phone. Mark what matters as you say it; the rest happens after transcription.

Highlight

Finished the proposal today. The client liked the second option best.

Tap Highlight when you reach the important part. Once transcribed, that sentence is marked in yellow, and the recording gets a star in the list.

Remind

Pick up the dry cleaning tomorrow at 3 pm.

Pick up the dry cleaningReminder · Mon, Oct 12 at 3:00 PM

Tap Remind when you say something you want to be reminded of. That sentence becomes a reminder directly, with no confirmation step. If it is wrong, tap Undo.

Which sentence you tapped on is estimated from how far through the recording you were, not located word by word. It is most accurate when a recording covers one thing; with several sentences in one recording, it can land on the one next to it.

Added to Reminders

Said clearly: written straight away

You said “remind me”, or both the time and the task are clear. It goes into Reminders or Calendar as soon as transcription finishes, and can be undone with one tap.

Needs confirmation

Not sure: it asks first

No time given, the time has already passed, or it is hard to tell whether it is a to-do at all. It is listed under that recording with the reason, and written only when you tap Add.

Repeating

Every night at ten: shown, not written

Repeating items are currently only shown in the app. They are not added to Reminders or Calendar yet.

How it reads the time you said

“Tomorrow” and “next Monday” are counted from when you recorded, not from when the recording was processed.

Stops when nobody is talking

After 30 seconds in a row with nobody speaking, recording stops by itself and the trailing silence is trimmed. A recording with no speech at all is not saved.

Works with the phone in your pocket

A recording made on the watch is sent to the iPhone it is paired with and transcribed in the background, even while the phone is locked.

Kept on the watch until the phone has it

If the phone is not nearby, the recording stays on the watch and is sent when you are back. The watch deletes it only after the phone confirms it has received it.

Too short is thrown away

Recordings shorter than 2 seconds are discarded automatically, so an accidental tap does not leave an empty note.

Too quiet is not guessed at

A recording that is too quiet is not handed to the speech model, which sometimes makes up words from background noise. It shows “Nothing heard” and can still be played back.

The original audio stays

Every recording keeps its audio, so you can listen again or transcribe it again. You delete recordings one by one in the app.

Recording, transcription and recognising reminders all happen on your devices. The app does not connect to any server, call any third-party service, or use a cloud model.

No account

No accounts and no sign-in.

Speech model on the iPhone

About 216 MB, currently installed with the app, and working as soon as it is installed.

Stored on your iPhone

Recordings and transcripts stay in the app’s own storage on your devices.

One thing it does not decide

Reminders and Calendar are Apple’s apps. Whether what is written there syncs through iCloud depends on your own iCloud settings.

A few things to know

Can I download it now?

Not yet. Murmo Notes is still in development and has not been released.

Which devices do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later. An Apple Watch with watchOS 26 or later is optional: you can start a recording on either one. Transcription happens on the iPhone, so the watch is used paired with an iPhone. The iPhone also works fully on its own.

Do I need an account?

No. Murmo Notes has no accounts and no sign-in.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

They are stored on your iPhone, and the app does not connect to any server. The privacy policy has the details.

I recorded on the watch and my phone was not nearby. Is it gone?

No. The recording stays on the watch and is sent once you are back near the phone. It is deleted from the watch only after the phone confirms it has received it.

What if the transcript is wrong?

The original recording is always kept. You can listen again or tap Transcribe Again. For names that keep being misheard, add them under Settings, Custom Words, and both past and future recordings are corrected.
